As a secondary school teacher, you can inspire young minds with your enthusiasm and passion in teaching your preferred subject. If you don’t have a relevant degree or need to refresh your knowledge you could complete a fully funded subject knowledge enhancement course (SKE) before starting your training.
You can use this section to find out more about the different subjects you can teach.
Subjects and funding
CESET providers and schools can offer training in a range of subjects.
Some subjects are particular priorities for schools. As a result, you’ll find there is a lot of support available to help you get into the classroom; from generous tax-free bursaries or scholarships to extra support during the application process.
- Priority subjects: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Languages, Computing, Biology, Geography
Other subjects include:
- English, Music, Design & Technology, Religious Education, Drama, Dance, Art & Design, PE, Business Studies, History, Citizenship.
These subjects are very popular and teacher training places tend to fill up quickly.
If you choose to train via school-led School Direct route you could earn a salary while you train. Student loans could also be available to support you while you study and in some cases you may be eligible for a bursary. Visit the Get Into Teaching website for the latest funding information.
